Review: Aarya Hotstar series

A Hotstar original series Aarya starring Sushmita Sen is a such a masterpiece in the world of series.

Sushmita Sen, as Aarya, slides into the series with upside-down gymnastics rings. A perfect instance set by her portraying how women slump into the daily morning routine build themselves strong and run the world fiercely and powerfully.

The story builds where Aarya husband Tej, his best friend Jawahar and Aarya's brother runs an illegal business of medicine where they consign opium to the different parts of the world. They had stolen heroin from a local drug lord Shekhawat. And he, in turn, was handling a 300-crore assignment for the Russian drug mafia that was supposed to infiltrate the dark alleys of the state of Rajasthan. If this isn’t troublesome enough, then there is more in store, the business partners got into an ugly altercation just a night before the murder of Aarya's husband Tej, and Sangram is already behind bars over drug charges that he believes was a brainchild of Tej. With a plethora of motives to die for and a host of possible suspects, it could have been anyone. Is it the money-minded brother? Or, is it the troubled friend? Or, the drug syndicate?. Later when you dive into the series it will keep you eager upon what will happens next. Each and every character have depicted their character diligently. I felt the series was slowly phased but yet the storyline had our eye glued on about what would happen next. It’s a clever glimpse into the possibilities of Aarya shape-shifting into something more badass from a regular home-maker, and the underlying capability, focus and strength required, both in body and mind, to do so. The series rests heavily on Sen’s capabilities and conviction to slip into different avatars while maintaining her credibility in all the roles. She defines herself as a grieving wife, scared mother, hurt daughter, diplomatic daughter, drug dealer, businesswomen and keeper of secrets.

There are some parallel characters as well in the narration like her parents and brother in law, in the beginning, you would have not thought that these characters will have a spill different personality.

Was not a fan of Sushmita Sen but after watching her comeback with a savage and vicious avatar I genuinely am a fan. She significantly played a dotting mother then a cruel businesswoman and dealing her dealers with class and royalty. They have used Bhagavat Gita shlokas and meanings in form of dialogues to show and make viewers understand the real dynamics of life.

Instances the dialogues used:

1.  Dharma Yoga (Things we do for family): "Main apni family ko bachane ki liye kuch bhi kar sakti hu" says Aarya we shall never step back from our duties

2. Karma Yog (As we sow, so shall we reap), karma is the life story. what you do the people that will get back to you

3. Jeevan Sangarsh se Bachna He kya? (Struggle is inevitable), life is tough yet we struggle to make our loved ones happy.

4. Greed leads us nowhere: "Bharosa wahi todte hai jinpe bharosa kiya jaata hai" says Aarya, true indeed.

An Indian crime drama set up in Rajasthan showing the culture of Rajputs and their love for their dynasty with a saying of Aarya to her kids, "Violence is not an answer, it is never an answer". The series has truly dignified the real-life of humankind with great teaching. One time watch series for crime lovers highly recommended.
