Lockdown and it's impact on Domestic Violence
We have been in lockdown for more than 2 months and it may continue if the cases tend to escalate. People during this lockdown period have surged cases of the victims who are facing domestic violence.
Domestic Violence impacts the pattern of our mind which involves psychology, finance, physical, sexual and emotional abuse. The term "Lockdown" itself personifies being trapped which doesn't indicate trapping your mind. People say home is termed as the safest place but this not for everyone.
Increased level of stress and anxiety because of job insecurity, financial worry, career destruction, and other emotional factor has corrupted the minds which have been hard on children. Children have the basic vulnerability to have faced this during the lockdown.
Just a few days back I was researching and came across a piece of news regarding a rape case where the father used to rape her daughter for years and she got pregnant and delivered an unstable child.
A 25-year-old actress Preksha Mehta committed suicide in her Indore flat and her father was the first one to see. This kind of news is so depressing
The two dilemmas of father been portrayed where one father is brutal towards her daughter and another one just lost the other half.
Another case in Delhi which happened where a girl falsely accused a 16- year old boy for molesting her and boy being innocent couldn't handle the stress and pressure committed suicide.
Women as compared to children and men face domestic violence on a daily basis which was even before lockdown. They undergo mental vulnerability yet stand calm and maintain peace. Domestic violence is a worse thing a woman can expect during this lockdown. Financial dependency and societal pressure make some women less courageous to speak against domestic violence. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has said that there have been more 500 cases lodged amidst the lockdown.
Women who bear this violence shouldn't keep it to themselves and blame what at all is happening. Violence is unacceptable and the perpetrator is 100 percent responsible. Tolerating abuse is itself violent and we cannot let men and torturer, torture us for our weakness. Women should file a complaint immediately as complaining is always available, take a stand without worrying about society because society will forget the very next moment when something else appears. A woman can survive without a man but cannot live without losing her self-respect and dignity. It is always advisable to keep a friend, family member, neighbor, or someone in the proximity of the escalating risk.
People during the lockdown should try to enhance their minds and their lives because the pandemic has already created havoc and disturbed our growth. People with stress, anger management, anxiety issues, abusive nature should control by seeking help to keep a healthy balance in life. The parent's ill behavior torments the child's mind more than can imagine.
Stay calm, happy, spread joy, and love during these hard times.
